Instructions to Request a Certified Copy of a Vital Record
👤 In-Person Request
- Identification: Provide a valid Driver’s License or State ID.
- Alternative: If no State ID, bring three alternate IDs (at least one must have a photo).

- Download & Sign: Complete the Vital Record Request Form.
- Verify Identity: Send a clear photo or scan of your Government ID.
- Email: Send the form and ID to vitals@algercounty.gov.
- Pay Online: Submit payment via AllPaid (PLC 6473)

- Prepare: Complete and sign the Vital Record Request Form.
- ID Copy: Include a photocopy of your Government ID (or alternative)
- Payment: Make check or money order payable to Alger County Clerk.

Vital Record Requests

To obtain a certified copy, you must provide:
- Names: Both applicants’ names at the time of marriage.
- Date: The exact date of the marriage.

Please note that birth records are not public records. They are only available to:
- The individual named on the record.
- The parents of the individual.

🪦 Death Records
To obtain a certified copy, you must provide:
- Basic Info: Name of the deceased and the date of death.
- Unknown Dates: If the date of death is unknown, you must provide the mother’s and father’s names.

- First Certified Copy: $15.00
- Additional Copies: $5.00 each (for the same record requested at the same time).
Concealed Pistol License (CPL)
- Application Fee: $100.00
- Fingerprinting: $15.00 (Paid separately at the Sheriff’s Department)
Schedule with the Sheriff's Department for fingerprinting availability before you go.

- Renewal Fee: $115.00
- Note: No fingerprinting is required for renewal applications.

- Reprint Fee: $10.00
- Applies to: Lost, stolen, or damaged licenses.
Marriage License Information
- Age: Both applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- ID: Both must present a government-issued photo ID at pickup.

- Michigan Residents: Apply in your county of residence. You may then marry anywhere in the state.
- Non-Residents: Apply in the specific county where the ceremony will take place.

- Waiting Period: 3 days after applying (unless a waiver is purchased).
- Expiration: The license is valid for 30 days. The ceremony must occur within this window.

📝 Application Process
- Obtain a Bond: Purchase a $10,000.00 surety bond (available through insurance agencies).
- Visit the Clerk: Submit your completed application and the bond to the Alger County Clerk’s Office.
- County Fee: Pay a $10.00 processing fee (payable to Alger County Clerk).
- State Submission: Mail your approved application and a $10.00 check or money order to the State of Michigan.
